Umesh Adhikary is the President (Corporate Strategy & Business Development) of Aditya Birla Group, a $40 billion multinational conglomerate.  The Corporate Strategy & Business Development cell tracks global trends, devices long term strategic plans for the group, formulates the merger and acquisitions as well as conceptualizes and evaluates entry strategy into new businesses and reports to Mr. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman,  Aditya Birla group.

Since joining the Aditya Birla Group in 1999 as Senior Manager, Corporate Strategy and Business Development, Umesh has played a pivotal role in developing strategic plans for various businesses, acquisitions and joint ventures including Metals, Cement, Financial Services and Retail businesses that have significantly broadened the portfolio of the group.

Umesh has over 20 years experience encompassing manufacturing, project financing and M&A. He has had successful stints as an executive in Tata Steel and Essar Group before joining the Aditya Birla Group.

Umesh has earned a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering from NIT, Rourkela and a post-graduate degree in Finance from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar.

He was conferred the Chairman’s ‘Exceptional Contributor’ Award in the year 2010.  He has attended the Senior Executive Program at the London Business School and is also an alumni.
